Greetings FUMC Borger family!
You all have been amazing during this time of uncertainty. You have continued to worship together through our various online worship offerings. You have continued to care for one another by calling and checking in on one another. You have continued to support the ministries of the church through your tithes and offerings, either giving online, the mail, or bringing them by the church office. Thank you all for being the church! I am proud to be your pastor.
The Church Council met this past Wednesday to begin planning for the return to in-person gathered worship. It is the goal of the Church Council to start in-person gathered worship starting Sunday, May 24, 2020. This decision was based upon guidance received from Governor Abbot’s phase reopening of Texas plan, guidance for houses of worship from the Texas Attorney General’s office, information provided from our local elected leaders, and guidance from our Bishop and Annual Conference.
As we shift back to gathering in-person, we will be reopening in phases. Phase One will be the worship service only. During this phase, we will not be offering Sunday School classes, Wednesday evening programs, or nursery. Phase Two will be relaunching our discipleship ministries. The move into Phase Two will be based on whether or not the spread of the COVID-19 virus is lessening. We do not have a date set for that shift.
I know that this is not the news some of our church members were hoping for. I am also aware that some churches have already announced reopening to in-person gathered worship starting as soon as Sunday, May 3, 2020. I am extra aware that we all miss seeing one another and sharing life and faith with one another. We believe the plan to reopen on Sunday, May 24, 2020, is the best decision for First United Methodist Church based on all the information and guidance we have received from the various sources.
